Tab shows

Tab shows
Scaled-down versions of successful Broadway productions, usually musicals but also multi-scene, large-cast dramas, were created for the purpose of touring. Not only might the text be shortened, but tab shows generally offered less ambitious scenery, effects, and costumes than audiences would have seen in the original version of the play. The term was later used to describe short musical entertainments offered in conjunction with motion picture showings in the "talkie" era.
